week 13: some say you're supposed to feel better. I say STFU.

Pants that fit can get a girl giddy-fied!
As much as I don't want to spend any money on maternity wear...I can't help myself.  Prego or not, when a girl pulls on a pair of pants that improves her self esteem while simultaneously making the world a more peaceful -unicorns in strawberry fields- kind of place...

you're going to throw some money down.

Some folks out there say the 2nd trimester begins at week 12.  Some say week 12 day 1.  Some say week 13.   I've even read week 14 is the beginning...

I'm not sure why they haven't figured that shit out.  Like a long time ago.  Pregnancy ain't nothin' new, ya'll.

Anyhoos.  Here are some fast facts for prosperity:

Cravings:
water
milk
soy chocolate milk
peanut butter and nutella smeared on graham crackers
peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
peanut butter crackers (see a theme here?)
Veggie sandwiches
Fiber One cereal
fruit (grapes/apples/bananas)
sleep (obvs)
Loud music with heavy, aggressive guitar (Beastie Boys, White Stripes, Rage Against the Machine)

Aversions:
red onion
vinaigrette
ketchup
people who can get by on 8 hours sleep and feel human

The fatigue is starting to lapse...just a tiny fraction of a piece.  People say it's because I have a 2 year old to chase after that makes the fatigue so much more than with the last pregnancy.  But I think it's more of the HORMONES THAT ARE ROCKING OUT in my brain/body universe.  For example, after washing the sheets on our bed, I was able to get the fitted sheet and flat sheet back in place.  However, it took 5 days FIVE DAYS for me to put pillow cases back on the pillows.

Let's not even talk about the bathrooms.  The colorful ring in the toilet or the toothpaste on the mirrors.

Or the dust, the vacuuming, the crumbs in the couch that just beckon a small army of ants to just "come on in -there's a buffet up in here!"

My husband, who just happens to be 3000 some odd miles away, is encouraging me to call a cleaning service.

-Think they'll mind if I'm napping while they're here?

I'm also having issues with the whole cooking thing.

Frozen pizza turned Charcoal.  WhOOPs!
Dinner is served, my love!
Please pray for my inner domestic goddess to emerge...

because it ain't pretty over here...

But you wanna see something that IS?

week 12, day 6: Look at the AWESOMENESS!

You know what makes my feet curl up in excitement...?

Peanut Butter!!!

Lemme get my hands in there!!!

Wait a minute...Did you hear that? I thought I heard some-

It's Friday, ya'll.

Tonights dinner?
Beef Vegan Hotdog, unwashed organic apple, stale farm raised and locally grown raisens, and stale baby Toddler Mum-mums smeared with full fat natural peanut almond butter. With a side of Mardi Gras beads (don't ask) paired with an iPood  that I paid 20 dollers for wtf was I thinking t-shirt.

We like to get wild from time to time whilst being nutritionally somewhat wine-buzzed  conscious.

eat your heart out!!

As much as I adore this quaint little town we call home, I do SO miss having at least a dozen diverse and GOOD restaurants at my fingertips.  But, even still, having Milo in our lives, it's not like we'd be sitting in restaurants every day, or even every month...So, in the last couple of years or so, the husband and I have rolled up our sleeves, tossed the taco kit to the side and have attempted to COOK.  Not just bake some chicken's thigh or breast and steam some broccoli heads,  but really get to know some different styles of cooking.  We wanted to use those forgotten spices on the rack -again, push past the good 'ol salt and pepper and garlic and basil -and get to know curry powder, garam masala, cloves, and coriander.  We (mostly the husb) have been pretty successful at our attempts of making dinners we would easily pay $25 per plate for...

But the real challenge still lurked before us:  SUSHI.  We easily gathered up most of the essentials: avocado, cucumber, imitation crab, shrimp, rice, nori...
And after several stores we finally found the bamboo mat (thank you Whole Foods!).  But to find sushi grade salmon?  NO MAS.  That broke my heart.  But we had enough to make some yum-tastic rolls anyhow...

patting out the rice on the nori

adding a crab stick, shrimp, avocado, carrot, cucumber and green onion

roooolll it, paaaat it...

slice it up!

and serve with soy sauce (low sodium, of course!)
Yum-licious!

What have you made lately that you're most proud of?

I can haz more snow?

Fact: we've been getting snow.  Lots and Lots of snow. Pro: Lots of family bonding! Con: LOTS of family bonding!  I kid, I kid.  We didn't venture outside today due to the Blizzard conditions i.e. lots of wind, lots of snow, lots of cold.  You don't need the INCESSANT weather coverage to look around and see the weather!  So while my baby daddy was cooking some delish Indian hamburger kabobs (we have a thing for Indian food, just in case you missed that segment) (and ps, We had to use ground beef because the grocery stores (yes we went to several) were ALL OUT of ground lamb. Just ob-surd!), Milo and I went to a couple of windows and did some picture taking.  We get wild like that sometimes.

Look out Ansel Adams!!

That's my door handle -on the inside and the outside.  You see how I captured the snow?  ON THE HANDLE?! This cabin fever gives me the artistics chills...

I can haz MORE snow!?
ps: you can barely see it, but Milo is playing with an empty egg carton.  My imagination knows no bounds...that and the fact that our recycle bin is hibernating-so, figured in the meantime, let them play with trash!

he is just sew kewt!

lone toy rider thing. And that tree again. (boundless AGAIN!)

Nostalgic for BBQs and umbrella drinks. And, while I'm at it, sleeping in and road trips to NYC.

The trash won't be picked up this week. So we're stock piling dirty diapers.  At least all that poo is frozen...(what? you didn't think I'd go a whole post without talking about poo, did you?)

And finally, a video of my darlings.  Teaching an 18 month old how to play Indian poker is a sure fire way to laugh the winter blizzard blues away...

SuperBowl, the Nat'l Anthem, and another blow out

"So, Milo, I'm going to teach you a little about Patriotism and the American Way.  Now we're here, watching the Superbowl, and before the game begins someone comes out and sings the National Anthem...

"During this time it is imperative that we stand, place our right hand over our heart, and sing...along with Carrie Underwood..."

"See, Milo, it's just a magical moment..." (holds back tears, like that football player on the tv, see?)

"OK, now let's have a drink and watch the kickoff!"

"CHEERS!  Who you rootin' for?"

"Saints or the Colts?" *Clink*

"Whoa, wait a minute kid....did you...just...?"

"...shit yourself?  Yup...you sure did....Those wings and pizza ain't sittin' right with you are they? Or was it the Nachos with xtra cheese and refried beans your mother made?"

"Ok, so, seriously, Milo, you broke some guy code.  It's time for you to go see your mother...I'll be right here, waiting for you."

"I love you, man, but....whoa....come back during half time, mmmk?"

"hey, hon...Milo needs you for a sec...GO SAINTS!"

Peptobismal, 25inches of snow, and possible TMI

I'm not one to get sick often -maybe once a year, or every other year. Which is good because me and sick just aren't a good combo.  But when you pair us up and then add an 18 month old...you get an entire all get-out irritableNOpatienceenergySloppyJoe-ofamessITIS.  Then you take that cocktail and stir in about 25 inches of snow...You get a full on Lifetime special. With NO commercials. This all started in the late, but oh- so-convenient hour of 10pm Wednesday night and lasted THROUGHOUT the night. (Oh, hello again, sunrise!). Tums and Peptobismal were NO MATCH for this bad boy!

You know when you first start dating someone and you are so CONSCIOUS of them hearing you in the bathroom?  OH THE HORRER! Please, don't let him hear me POOPING!! In fact, my husband didn't even fart in front of me until after we were married!

Good thing I'm over that. (I hear the moans of eye rolling and the "spare me" gazes as I type this...)

Though I'm no longer "in the weeds" of this here bug, (read: sitting on the toilet while hugging a trashcan) I'm still feeling incredibly run down, uninspired, low to nothing appetite -just give me some jello and my gatorade/pedialyte concoction and I know I just slept for 10 hours but I'm still dragging...

wow. so this was fun. You ok to drive?

ps So far the husband and babe are fine. I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

Baby come back

I was going through some old photos and came across these from that one snow storm (Or is it snowstorm? some things they just didn't teach us in public school) we got a few weeks back or maybe it's been a month or 2 now I can't remember so I guess the photos aren't *that* old but I remember seeing the broom in the snow and it reminded me of that Swiffer Mop commercial and thinking wow I am glad to capture this *moment* and then with the second pic being all "honey, hey, hey, honey, stop the car, back up, gotta take a picture of that grocery cart can you believe they just left it there knowing a snownomenon was coming and the cart could be stuck there for WEEKS and hubby was all are you serious and then he gave a big 'ol big sigh while putting the car in reverse...

"...you can blame it all on me..."

Sad really...

yeah. So there's that.

I need a good nights sleep. Seriously...

the RastaMan gave us Hope. Then Chinatown.

It started as an innocent day of sight-seeing.  I not so expertly tourguided my MIL, BIL, and SIL into the great city of our Nations Capital. This was their first time witnessing such greats as the Washington Memorial:

and the obligatory group pose in front of the Capital building.

and then, quite unexpectedly, as we entered pergatory The Natural History Museum a Hu-mon-go Elephant comes charging at us! (cue Elepant noise)

and right behind him? A whole FLEET of horses, goats, and that fluffy thing with 4 legs (as seen on bottom right. and next to him? I think a RAM.  Which is my zodiac sign power animal.  So, totally, relevant)

"LUNCH. You will be my LUNCH. NOM NOM NOM"

We ran to the nearest cave and sought solace with a seemingly friendly family.  Until we noticed they were...burying some....GUY?! What in the Name OF ALL THAT IS HOLY!" (yes. I become religious all of sudden.  Fear can do this)

So we HIGH TAILED it like bunny rabbits out of there and found ourselves in AFRICA!.  I know! How does this happen?! Maybe when you "get God" you can end up in Africa? (shrug). We came across this lady who offered us some native vegtables..."You must regain your strength. Your journey does not end here."

Well. Then. Let's get it on with it...

These Africans sure can write...I'm glad I'm African now...

And then BAM! We are swimming in some Ocean wonderland of outrageous JELLYFISH! Which I'm totally allergic too. So, you know, ME SCARED!

And whales of UNREASONABLE sizes! (NOT allergic to whales.  File under: goodtoknow)

We paddled to the nearest shoreline.  Paddles we just happened to have. Because...yeah, like I always say: NEVER leave home without a paddle!  OR TWO!  So we found these guys.  I know. Put some PANTS on. Get a haircut.  GAWD! DAMN TREE HUGGERS! p.s. what's with the legs on that horse??

But they were nice enough to make us a fire to dry off a bit from that DUD of a canoe ride.
I admired his abs. He said he liked my teeth. We were cool.
He told us of butterflies and how they would lead us to the next adventure...but...

This is BULLSHIT.  We all know the butterflies were out hitting up Happy Hour in Chinatown...
What were we to do??

Yup. We discovered the Rasta-man IS GOOD. That is all...ahem,yes..

and then...The Hope Diamond.  (Which, BTW, this picture, TOTALLY gives it justice!)

speaking of Happy Hour in Chinatown...

"I must have been dreaming!"

This is what I look like after half a pitcher of Sangria...what? After a day of being chased by elephants, cavemen and giant jelly fish...I think it is SO. VERY. In order....
