you can't make me say "big boy" haircut...

It's Memorial Day weekend, it's hot outside, "mom-cuts" is being investigated for working w/o a license, and well...the timing was good...

So...

2 1/2 months shy of his 3rd birthday, my boy gets his first professional cut!

While gripping his super new squirt gun and being fed peanut butter m&m's, little man sat ever so still and quiet!

TaDah!

24 weeks (Preg-head prevails!)

Preg-head is a term I coined (coined?) when with Milo-child.  It's the forgetfulness, spaciful "huh?" Oh shit, I just locked myself out of the house -whatdoyamean my tire is flat AGAIN- moments that I have been experiencing.  ALOT.

It's an equal mix of totally my fault and WTF LIFE!

It's not fun. It's not so amazing.

So it's tuesday morning.  Or was it wednesday?  And I have everything ready to go: kid dressed, me dressed, Milo's lunch and blanket/pillow, purse, door shuuuuut....OH FUuuuuuCK.  KEYS!  KEYS  MOTHER FLIPPIN' KEYS...!!!!!

Milo and I go to the back door.  Of course it's locked.  Of course all the windows are locked closed.  I wonder how much a new window will cost.  My life is suddenly at a standstill.  But I have a cell phone!  I call friend #1.  But she's not answering.  Of course not, she's busy.  She's in her minivan singing Barney songs with her laughing/smiling almost 3 year old happy-child while he sips on cucumber water.  She has it all together. And she does it with finesse and kindness.  She would never lock herself out of her house.  And if she did, she's got 3 back up plans.

I call another friend.  The one who JUST had a baby.  Like a week ago.  She'd LOVE to drop everything after a night full of nursing, spit up and meconium diapers.

But she answers!  I ramble about all my issues and -like a good friend- offers up her husband and her tea and sympathy condolences for being on my own -and pregnant- and flooding with progesterone making me an even more spacey and floppy person than usual....and then I remember...

the credit card trick!

With Milo jumping in puddles in the middle of street and my phone nudged between my shoulder and ear, I successfully OPEN THE DOOR with a mere slide of the card.

BEAUTIFUL!  YES!

I thank my friend for "being there" and I hang up.  Now.  Where are those keys?!

I'm flipping couches, I'm digging in drawars, I double check pockets.  This is ridiculous.  I think back to last night.  And then I remember.

Last night, as in 12 hours ago, I left the keys -on top of the car- outside.  In the rain.  In public.  Where anyone could say, "Hey! Keys!  Let's go pay Lynsey a little visit at 2 in the morning!  Or better yet...TAKE THE CAR FOR A LITTLE JOY RIDE!"

I dash outside.  My keys are sitting there all shiny and wet.  On top of the car. But not only my keys, but my husband's set of keys.

I had let Milo play in the cars while I mowed the lawn.

Mowing the lawn is also "not fun" and not "so amazing" when 6 months pregnant.

What next?  WHAT NEXT??!

My "Look Who's Talking" moment

You know that scene when Kirstie Alley's character is letting her little boy blow dry her hair while she talks about "that mean man?"

That one.

aside: I rarely blow dry my hair so Milo thought this was so. much. fun!

sayin' cheese while eatin' cheese

You know how people try to get kids to smile for a picture by saying "say cheeeeese!"  Well that never worked with Milo.  He would either ignore me or look at me like I had lost my mind.

And then today, randomly, he looks up at me as I'm aiming my phone at him to snap a pic and he says, "CHEEEEEESE!"

Maybe it was the bowl full of doritos...I don't know...but 2 year olds are weird.

"Everybody must get stoned." thanks, Bob

Milo has a new thing.  A new trick, if you will.  He sticks this little stick thing into the passenger seat in front of him, using it as a microphone, and he sings.  Loudly.

Making me rethink the playing of "Rainy Day Women #12 and 35"

Well, they’ll stone ya when you’re trying to be so good

They’ll stone ya just a-like they said they would
They’ll stone ya when you’re tryin’ to go home
Then they’ll stone ya when you’re there all alone
But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get stoned

On second thought I probably shouldn't be riding roller coasters

This is the look of someone who is 6 months pregnant and probably shouldn't be riding a roller coaster.  Even a kid roller coaster.  You know that metal bar that sits down on your lap?  Yeah.  It's tight.

And that is the look of a 2.5 year old thinking, "Oh Fuck Yeah."

22 weeks (mother's day)

This week the baby is as big as a spaghetti squash *8 inches, 1 lb*

This week also marks the beginning of heartburn, 'roids, and melasma.  But, hey, mama got a cute bump.

For mother's day weekend, we took to the road w/ my mom and went as far east as we could (without leaving the U.S., that is).

The past 2 summers of taking Milo to the ocean were -in a word- challenging.  He had no tolerance for "hanging out" under an umbrella and relaxing next to the tides.  Oh no.  This year -albeit a short weekend jaunt- he was more persauded to bond with the beach and just enjoy....

helping Granny put up the tent

We had beatiful -72 degree-weather and no crowded beach!

I do believe I have a beach lover on my hands.  Finally!

And I did a little of this...

and experienced a little of that

and then we got busy with some other stuff...

The hotel -being "family friendly"- had an arcade next to the (indoor!) pool.

Every morning, Milo was very interested in going down there to play.  And -at times-pick his nose.

And lotso quarters were used...

We headed down to the boardwalk and Milo got some superb aeriel views from the Carousel.

and rode some fancy rides.
This is one of my proudest moments (not just because I'm sporting some pregnancy boobage).  Milo is not one for restaurants.  And he sat here in a booth.  The entire time.  I ate a salad and 2 slices of pizza while sitting -not chasing a 2 year old around while waiting for a to-go order! Total WIN.  I might have let him play with knives in order to stay seated.  Ahem, yes.

Thank you, mom, for making this a special weekend for us.  (And putting up with my moody, uncomfortable, wish my husband was home, pregnant and sober self!)

And thank you, Milo, for making me a mom (and reminding me to have fun and play a little...)
