philosophizing

So I've been back in the World of Work for a couple months now and I'm "getting" what all those working moms flex their jaw and tongues about when they scream/cry/silent treatment about the whole work/life balance.  Specifically, being a parent AND working outside the home. There are, indeed, pros and cons to the decisions that we are FORCED to make alongside the decisions that we WANT to make. There isn't  Perfection, just What Works.  For Now.

a young boys cont'd quest for my sanity

Do they sell knee and elbow pads and helmets and mouth gaurds for 20 month olds? And padded parking lots and over the counter valium and  sippy cups of chardonney for moms that aren't ready for this kind of mobility?

32, 2 nuns, and O cherry blossoms

So yesterday was my 16 squared birthday.  And I did what any responsible adult would do: take the son to daycare.  And then promptly come back home and return to slumber.

Hey!  Old ladies need their sleep!

So I got a late start, but it was a well rested start and that's how I need to approach more things: well rested...

The hubby and I metro-ed off to D.C. and had some tasty sushi in Chinatown.  Then we cabbed it over to see some cherry blossoms.  All this time in DC and I've never meandered through those famous trees along the waterfront.

This is where I would post a picture, that I personally took, of said famous trees.  But, apparently, we missed the show a week or something late, because there were No Blossoms, No Cherries. Just a lot of porta potties and a few tents that housed pictures of the trees when they were in full bloom.  Apparently the bloom date was 3/31 this year.  NOT 4/7. BOO.

A pic of what I didn't see in person.  Yay.

So we milled around The Mall and then decided to head home.  But I couldn't let the city excursion go by without at least One Epic Pic documenting our kid-free day out birthday brou ha-ha....

You're Welcome...

We ended the day with another trip to the beach:

and then a faaboolous local dinner!  So....from raw fish, stark trees, catholic nuns, family beach time, to candlelight oysters...I can celebrate something good!!

Hello 32!!

brisk morning play in olde time

You are worried about seeing him spend his early years in doing nothing. What! Is it nothing to be happy? Nothing to skip, play, and run around all day long? Never in his life will he be so busy again. ~Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Emile, 1762

Easter and Sunday

2010, Easter Sunday:  First barefoot beach day this year!

All the freakin' cutes!

And later that day...
A rooftop picnic in D.C.!

This shirt makes me look pregnant.  Don't fool yourselves...

Small child. Running. On a rooftop. Does NOT make me nervous. Much.

Uncle and Nephew

My brother, my husband and my son...what a good lookin' crew...

From 'burbia shining sea to inner city rooftop picnic, the E's keep it coming....

Cont'd proof he's a boy. A reckless bruiser of a boy!

"Hey, Milo!  What is you doin?"

"I'm going to take my bike off some sweet jumps, ma"
"Sweet jumps, hey? Well, don't bust yo' head!"

"Wooooo  Hoooooo!!!"

"Whoa baby boy!! You okay??

"Ma, did you catch that?!....That was awesome!  Let's do it again!!
