sayin' cheese while eatin' cheese

You know how people try to get kids to smile for a picture by saying "say cheeeeese!"  Well that never worked with Milo.  He would either ignore me or look at me like I had lost my mind.

And then today, randomly, he looks up at me as I'm aiming my phone at him to snap a pic and he says, "CHEEEEEESE!"

Maybe it was the bowl full of doritos...I don't know...but 2 year olds are weird.

"Everybody must get stoned." thanks, Bob

Milo has a new thing.  A new trick, if you will.  He sticks this little stick thing into the passenger seat in front of him, using it as a microphone, and he sings.  Loudly.

Making me rethink the playing of "Rainy Day Women #12 and 35"

Well, they’ll stone ya when you’re trying to be so good

They’ll stone ya just a-like they said they would
They’ll stone ya when you’re tryin’ to go home
Then they’ll stone ya when you’re there all alone
But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get stoned

On second thought I probably shouldn't be riding roller coasters

This is the look of someone who is 6 months pregnant and probably shouldn't be riding a roller coaster.  Even a kid roller coaster.  You know that metal bar that sits down on your lap?  Yeah.  It's tight.

And that is the look of a 2.5 year old thinking, "Oh Fuck Yeah."

22 weeks (mother's day)

This week the baby is as big as a spaghetti squash *8 inches, 1 lb*

This week also marks the beginning of heartburn, 'roids, and melasma.  But, hey, mama got a cute bump.

For mother's day weekend, we took to the road w/ my mom and went as far east as we could (without leaving the U.S., that is).

The past 2 summers of taking Milo to the ocean were -in a word- challenging.  He had no tolerance for "hanging out" under an umbrella and relaxing next to the tides.  Oh no.  This year -albeit a short weekend jaunt- he was more persauded to bond with the beach and just enjoy....

helping Granny put up the tent

We had beatiful -72 degree-weather and no crowded beach!

I do believe I have a beach lover on my hands.  Finally!

And I did a little of this...

and experienced a little of that

and then we got busy with some other stuff...

The hotel -being "family friendly"- had an arcade next to the (indoor!) pool.

Every morning, Milo was very interested in going down there to play.  And -at times-pick his nose.

And lotso quarters were used...

We headed down to the boardwalk and Milo got some superb aeriel views from the Carousel.

and rode some fancy rides.
This is one of my proudest moments (not just because I'm sporting some pregnancy boobage).  Milo is not one for restaurants.  And he sat here in a booth.  The entire time.  I ate a salad and 2 slices of pizza while sitting -not chasing a 2 year old around while waiting for a to-go order! Total WIN.  I might have let him play with knives in order to stay seated.  Ahem, yes.

Thank you, mom, for making this a special weekend for us.  (And putting up with my moody, uncomfortable, wish my husband was home, pregnant and sober self!)

And thank you, Milo, for making me a mom (and reminding me to have fun and play a little...)

Celtic festival and the return of the stroller

"May the sons of your daughters smile up in your face."
Men in kilts are fun!
So it's that time of year again when the bagpipes, kilts, and knee highs come out to play. This past weekend, Milo and I joined ma mere at the Celtic Festival, celebrating all things...celtic.  I decided to break out the stroller for this event.  Milo hasn't been so much interested in this contraption in -oh, I don't know- well over a year and a half or so.  Once he got his sea legs, he felt there was no need to sit in a moving chair.  Mr. Independent, pfft.  And when I was putting it in the car he says, "Mommy...(with a look of confusion on his face)...what's that?"

"It's your stroller."

"Oh, stroller..." (still confused)

But it quickly became his "safe place" when all the festivities became a little too festive...
"I"m just going to sit here and watch all the drunk people in skirts parade around..."

"Grandma!  This band is LOUD.  But I'm strangely drawn to it..Can anybody tell me where the Blarney Roses grow?"

How about I just shoot the beer cans on the ground?  Pow Pow!

And now...ever since I brought out the stroller, it's become a new fixture in our living room...

I think it's adds that little something, don't cha think?

a beachin' moment

Heavy clouds, cool breeze, but we take to the Bay anyways

just us: watching nature: watching us: just nature

 "Oh no, Storm coming!"

And then the rain blew stronger and the wind came hard.  We packed up our blanket and toys, joined the dog walkers, strolling new mamas, and teenagers -finding our way back to a covered spot.  And then suddenly...

A full bridge rainbow...settled over the Bay.  The rain had stopped as suddenly as it began.

and it was beauty-full

and it made us wet-happy
